2026 NELSON MANDELA DAY CELEBRATED WITH IAC

NELSON MANDELA DAY 2026

In partnership with the Instituto de Apoio à Criança - IAC (Institute for the Support of Children), the Embassy this year celebrated INTERNATIONAL NELSON MANDELA DAY with a group of children supported by the IAC. Embassy staff participated in activities aimed not only at occupying the children during their summer break, but that are also both educational and playful, such as building kites, creating spin-tops from CDs, making beaded jewelry, decorating a world globe and a wall hand-painting. They also learned about Nelson Mandela and his example. The Embassy provided the children with a bag of snacks and collected non-perishable food items and hygiene products for donation to the children and their families.

A special thank you to the IAC and its fabulous team - Paula Paçó, Maria João Carmona, Conceição Alves, Bruno and remaining staff - for their warm welcome and wonderful work in support of the rights of children. Thank you also to IAC staff member, Carlos Quebra, for gifting the Embassy with his painting of Nelson Mandela.
